Our story began  like many other Chambers, with a group of business men getting together to try and make a difference  for the businesses and the towns people.

In 2002, the first meeting was held with about 10 businesses represented.  From their its number went up to about 40 businesses and individuals. The group elected a name, the Greenwood Development Alliance or GDA for short. The business group welcomed the talents of some retired and semi-retired members to help since most were still working.  They used the talents of the retirees to recruit members , write letters, put out a monthly bulletin and call on new businesses in the area.

The Chamber has been very active, this year,  in community activities such as: Pioneer  Heritage Festival, the Summer Concert Series, Community Planning Commission , a Welcome Basket project for new citizens moving into the area and of course their sponsorship of the Town Hall meeting in October at the Garden of the American Rose Center.

The Town Hall meeting will be held again this year.  We will have the Mayor and staff on hand to answer questions and introduce new businesses to our community.  We look forward to this annual event and welcome all people.

The Chamber meets the first Tuesday evening of each month, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Community Center located at the back of the William McClung Peters Memorial Park. Please feel free to attend our meetings and best of all, join the Chamber.

Welcome to your Greenwood Chamber of Commerce web site. The Greenwood Development Alliance became recognized as the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce on April 16, 2007.  We are proud to represent the citizens of Greenwood and will strive to become the catalyst through which business, industry, professionals and organizations work together for the common good of the community. We will follow the town’s business development proposal while keeping in tact our small town atmosphere.

One very important aspect of the Chamber is to help the town keep the present businesses we now have and bring in the kind of new businesses that fits our present environment while keeping in mind the importance of getting new tax revenue to maintain our present needs and grow for the future. This is a very tall order for any group, but with the help of our citizens and businesses it can be done. We welcome your comments but we especially need your support.  The Chamber is open to membership from any citizen or business.

Our present location is in the Metro Regional Business Incubator, 7100 West Park Rd.  Diana Simek is our Representative. Later we plan to move the Chamber to Greenwood.

Greenwood is made up of old and new homes. Many of the older homes, located in downtown Greenwood, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Much of the history of Greenwood is recorded in these old homes. Some of the homes were here during the Civil War and each has a history of their own.

The newer homes are located in new subdivisions, some are gated communities, and some are build on 1-2 acre lots to the owners specifications.  We have many lots available in our town just waiting for the new owner to buy and build on, so come and see what we have to offer.
